How many people’s lives so far have been saved through Open-heart Surgery? Obviously, there is no count. How many of us know the great gentleman who pioneered the Open-heart Surgery? Obviously not many – because it is so common these days, that people take it as a traditional treatment procedure for heart patients. What is so special about this?
However, we can never forget the great contribution of the gentleman, Dr. Michael DeBakey. The history of development of medical science on earth will for ever document this exceptionally brilliant cardio-vascular surgeon’s name in golden words.
What has he given to the medical world? Not only one or two, 70 surgical instruments were designed by this world famous surgeon. His talent was realized in 1932 itself, when he was just a medical school student. His designed Roller Pump at that time, later became a major component of the Heart-lung machine.
Dr. Michael DeBakey was also deeply involved with the artificial heart development activities.
Today, he is no more with us. At the age of 99, 11th July 2008 (Friday night at Houston), this great soul has left earth to reach his heavenly abode. Perhaps not even 50% of the media all worldwide have covered the news of this great loss. But World’s medical science practitioners will always remember him.
I plead to the patients and their relatives all over the world, who were benefited by the Open-heart Surgery, to pray for heavenly peace of this great doctor.
